Governor João Doria (PSDB) announced on Sunday the 20th that the State of São Paulo should receive five million doses of the coronavac vaccine in October, which is being developed by the Butantã Institute, in partnership with the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech. The toucan released the information on his Facebook.

The governor’s forecast is that there will be 46 million doses by December. “It is important to note that the agreement with Sinovac includes the transfer of technology to São Paulo, therefore, we will also produce the vaccine at the Butantã Institute,” he wrote.

Coronavac is in the third and final phase of human testing. Volunteer doctors and nurses from six Brazilian states participate in the tests. By the end of September, everyone will have taken two doses of the vaccine. An effectiveness analysis will be carried out on October 15. Two weeks ago, the governor reported that the volunteers have not yet had adverse reactions to the vaccine.

The decision on how the schedule will be and which priority groups will be vaccinated will be defined by the Ministry of Health. In November, work will begin at the Butantã Institute to expand its physical structure in order to accelerate vaccine production. The São Paulo government expects the reform to be completed in less than 30 days.

At the end of August, the São Paulo government requested at least R $ 1.9 billion from the Ministry of Health to expand the forecast for delivery of the coronavac vaccine next year, from 60 million to 120 million doses. The Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello, analyzes the request.
