SP enters a state of attention due to floods, says CGE

A woman died today after a tree fell on her car, in Vila Mariana, south of São Paulo. In all, four people were trapped in the hardware. Two boys, ages 8 and 10, were the first to be removed and assisted by firefighters. A man was taken to the Emergency Department of the Hospital das Clínicas after the rescue.

The accident occurred at Rua Dr. Thirso Martins, at number 32, during a storm. In the early afternoon, part of the capital entered a state of attention due to floods for the second day in a row.

In total, firefighters answered four calls for flooding, one for landslides and 63 for falling trees in Greater São Paulo.

Earlier, in Ipiranga, also in the south, another tree fell on a vehicle with passengers. An energized cable hampered the firefighters’ work, but the two victims were pulled from the car without serious injury.

On social media, residents of Alto do Ipiranga, Saúde and Vila Mariana reported heavy rains in the region. Hail rained in the gardens.

Floods in the north, west, east and southeast

According to information from the CGE (Center for Climate Emergency Management), the North, West, East, Southeast and Center areas faced heavy rains from 1:40 pm, but the alert ended at 4:26 pm for the entire city.

At 3:32 pm, CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos) alerted users about the partial operation of the line 10-Turquoise due to flooding on the highway. Twenty minutes later the problem was resolved and operation returned to normal.

The CGE registered seven flood points in the capital, including highways with a lot of traffic such as Marginal Pinheiros, in the Alto de Pinheiros region, west zone; on May 23, in the southern zone; and Avenida Celso García, in Mooca, east side. By 7 pm, the water had already fallen in all these places.
