Only ten PlayStation 4 (PS4) games will not run on PlayStation 5 (PS5), according to official information from Sony’s support pages published on Friday (9). Among the unsupported games, there are well-known names like Hitman Go and Turist Trophy Isle of Man – Ride on The Edge 2.
In addition to confirming titles that are incompatible with the new console, Sony’s documentation provides details on how PS4 games behave on PS5, as well as ways to migrate content from one video game to another. There is also confirmation of support for optional controls, such as authorized steering wheels and peripherals.

When it comes to current-gen games, Sony says only ten titles are limited to the PS4. They will be designated as “playable on PS4 only” on PlayStation Store and cannot be installed or run on PS5:
- DWVR
- Afro Samurai 2 Kuma’s Revenge Volume One
- Isle of Man TT – Ride on the Edge 2
- Just deal with it!

Regarding the rest, Sony points out that games can offer Game Boost mode. The feature makes the game recognize the more powerful hardware on the PS5 to perform better than the PS4, with superior graphics and more stable performance, for example. To take advantage of these advantages, the recommendation is to always keep the PS5 and the titles updated in the latest versions.
There are also caveats that even PS5-compatible games may have some kind of limitation in terms of features originally supported by the PS4, as well as bugs and eventual performance issues. However, Sony does not give any examples of what these features would be and recommends that the user test each game before purchasing DLC and additional content for PS4 titles.
The support page also clarifies that those who buy the PS5 can migrate data, such as digital and saved games, directly from the PS4 to the new console over Wi-Fi. Also, the player can simply download everything again from the library associated with the PS Plus account and the storage is saved, if subscribed.

Sony’s Gold and Platinum headphones are fully compatible with the new console, as well as any USB headset or P2 connection. The only caveat is that the Sony headphone companion app doesn’t work on PlayStation 5.
As for controls and peripherals, Sony reinforces the information above that DualShock 4 works on PS5 for PS4 games only. The same goes for current controls from other brands, as long as they are approved by Sony for PS4. Some types of accessories, such as racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight simulator controls, will also be compatible with PS5 games.
Finally, the supporting documentation also points out that PS4 functions and applications, such as Second Screen for streaming images and sound to mobile devices and PC or Live From PlayStation, are not compatible with PS5.
