The Jabuti Prize announced, on Thursday (26), the winners of its 62nd edition. The poetry book “Solo para vialejo”, by the author Cida Pedrosa, was chosen book of the year at the awards.
Launched in October 2019, Pernambuco’s work is an epic-lyrical poem that accompanies a trip from the coast to the sertão, full of musical references. In addition to the trophy, Pedrosa will receive the R $ 100,000 prize.
In an interview with G1 after the announcement, the writer celebrated. I am the first woman from Pernambuco to win this award. Today, coincidentally, is the birthday of my son, Vladimir Pedrosa, who is also a poet. I’m just happy. It was two years of writing. It is a long poem in which I write the return of the sea to the Sertão, walking along the BR-232, making a historical, imaginary journey of personal memories ”, he said.
“In this book, it is as if I were following the paths that blacks, blacks and Indians took to the Sertão. It is the story of my people, of Bodocó, a city that has incredible musicians. I keep telling about this sound, these images. It is a journey towards me and towards Brazil. ”
The winner of the literary romance category was “Torto Arado”, by the Bahian author Itamar Vieira Junior. The writer defeated “Essa gente”, by Chico Buarque. The novel follows the sisters Bibiana and Belonísia, who find a mysterious knife in the suitcase kept under grandmother’s bed.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ceremony was held virtually. The Brazilian writer Adélia Prado was distinguished as a Literary Personality of the edition.
In total, there are 20 categories, divided into four axes: Literature, Essays, Books and Innovation. According to the organization, this year the award had a 20% increase in the number of subscribers (2,599 in total). The first classified in each category will receive the Jabuti trophy and R $ 5,000.
