Solidarity quarantine. And it is not only the victims of the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic that mobilize Flamengo players. At home, in this period of public health concern, Diego, Everton Ribeiro and Rodrigo Caio took advantage of their free time to embrace the campaign for the recovery of little Gabriel Panzuti, who is fighting against the effects of cerebral palsy.

The 10-year-old boy from Pará was already a red-black amulet in the first game of the main team with Jorge Jesús on the bench in 2020. Pushed in the wheelchair by Diego Ribas, Gabriel captivated the players with sympathy and when asked to kiss the ball before the initial whistle for luck. And he did it: Flamengo beat Resende 3-1.

Born at six months, the boy was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which affects his motor coordination. With his tendons shortened, Gabriel needs to undergo a surgery called SPML, in São Paulo, and undergo a special intensive physical therapy treatment, called THERASUIT, in Michigan, in the United States. The goal is to minimize the impact of the disease on the child’s daily life.

To carry out the procedure, Gabriel’s family tries to raise around R $ 180 thousand necessary to pay for medical, travel and accommodation expenses. With the virtual kittens in progress, the young man’s relatives managed to obtain a shirt signed by the entire squad of champions of Libertadores and Brasileirão to raise funds through an auction.

Moved, Diego, Everton Ribeiro and Rodrigo Caio accepted the idea and made videos asking for help with the action.

– Your help is important to try to raise more money. We understand that the time is complicated due to Covid-19, not everyone can donate money to help.

“The meeting with the players was incredible for Gabriel. And his dream is to be able to walk alone to go to the field walking,” said Daniel Panzuti, Gabriel’s father.

Next Tuesday, Flamengo completes a month without entering the field. The last match took place on March 14, against Portuguesa, in Maracanã, a 2-1 victory already with the doors closed. Since then, the red-black squadron suspended its activities and then declared collective holidays until April 20.
