The São Paulo government announced on Saturday (25) that the state registered a 48% rate of social isolation on Friday (24), according to the Intelligent Monitoring System (Simi), which tracks 104 municipalities with more than 70,000 inhabitants. This is the third day in a row with this index, which the government considers unsatisfactory.
According to Gov. João Doria (PSDB), if rates remain below 50%, quarantine relief measures to be announced on May 8 should be reviewed.
“If the Brazilians who live in the cities that make up the metropolitan region and in the capital of São Paulo, do not do isolation with a minimum rate of 50%, which was the recommendation of the health, of the health committee, we will review the decision if announced a gradual decrease in insulation on May 8, “Doria said last Friday.
The cities with the highest isolation rate in the state were:
- São Sebastião (66%);
- Ubatuba (64%);
- Cruise (62%);
- Lorena (62%):
- Ibiúna (60%).
The coordinator of the Coronavirus Contingency Center in São Paulo, David Uip, said that the high rate of social isolation in the interior of the state has helped reduce the spread of Covid-19 in the region.
“The interior, this is a projection, should be delayed in terms of an epidemic of two or three weeks, which is great news, this makes it possible and allows the interior to be programmed, designed better,” said Uip.
Quarantine flexibility
The São Paulo government announced on Wednesday (22), the relaxation of social isolation.
“In a pandemic like this, health and medicine determine our steps. Health and science and will continue to do so from May 11, after the end of the current quarantine that runs until May 10. We will take account of local situations , regional and sectoral that can return the economy with the necessary protection measures, “said Doria.
The authorizations for the operation of the trade will depend on the specific situation of each city or region of the state. The reopening must respect the rules established by the government. The use of masks is one of them.
“Regionalization is extremely important because the country is already heterogeneous, so is the state, and with that we need to have this regionalization due to the critical factors in each of them,” declared the Secretary of State for Health, José Henrique Germann.
Doria says he can check flexibility in cities where insulation is less than 50%
The quarantine began on March 24 in the 645 municipalities of the state and ended a month on Friday (24). As of Thursday (23), São Paulo recorded 1,345 deaths from the new coronavirus and more than 16,000 confirmed cases.
The determinations for the reopening are discussed between Henrique Meirelles, secretary of Finance and Planning and Patrícia Ellen, secretary of Economic Development. Groups of doctors, epidemiologists, government technicians, businessmen, and economists also discuss the plan.
