The occupation of ICU beds for patients with severe covid 19 in the country was once again a concern, especially in the three southern capitals of the country, which at the beginning of the pandemic registered relative control of the disease, and in Vitória, Espírito Santo.

Hospital admissions have also risen again in Manaus, a city whose images of mass burials in mass graves have traveled the world.

In at least six capitals (Vitória, Florianópolis, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Manaus and Rio de Janeiro), the occupancy of beds in state ICUs reaches or exceeds 80%, according to a survey by “Folha de S.Paulo” with municipalities and state governments. And the number may be higher, since Recife and Macapá, for example, did not report data, but their states have high rates of more than 70%, and ICU beds tend to be concentrated in most capitals.

They have more controlled levels, in the Midwest, Cuiabá (29% of occupied beds) and Goiânia (42%), some capitals of the Northeast, such as Maceió (rates of 26%), São Luís and Aracaju, both with 37%. The place with the greatest tranquility of the disease is Palmas, with only 10% of the 76 beds in use for covid-19 patients.

In the south, there is an excess of critically ill patients with covid-19 in all capitals. 87.76% of the ICU beds occupied in Florianópolis, 85.38% in Porto Alegre, 85.39% and 82% in Curitiba.

In Paraná, 56% of the ICUs, in general, received patients with the disease, but in Curitiba some private hospitals are working at maximum capacity.

Given the advance of the pandemic in the city, the municipal government suspended elective (non-urgent) surgeries, but authorized children under 10 years of age to return to classes in private schools. Commerce is also open in the capital. Public, state and municipal education, however, tends to return only next year.

Santa Catarina has increased its number of contaminated. In the state, the occupancy of ICU on Tuesday was 75.66% and Florianópolis is in “very serious risk”. In the last vacation, the scenes were of crowded beaches, which influenced the appearance of a second wave of covid-19 in the city.

Acting Governor Daniela Reinehr (non-party) was diagnosed with covid-19 last week. He even deleted a message from social networks asking the population to wear a mask.

Rio Grande do Sul had 74.9% of the ICUs occupied. In the state capital, where the occupancy was 85.39%, there are hospitals with full occupancy, such as Moinhos de Vento, according to data from the city council.

Porto Alegre had been considered a “high risk” region, in the map published by the gaucho government last Friday (13). However, after turning to the municipality, the government considered the capital of Rio Grande do Sul to be of “medium risk”, without restricting services and economic activities.

The mayor of the capital, Nelson Marchezan Jr. (PSDB) announced on Tuesday (17) that his test was positive for covid-19. “My symptoms are mild and I am at home, fulfilling isolation. I take this opportunity to ask again that the citizens of Porto Alegre do not neglect the protocols and, if they feel any symptoms, look for our health network,” wrote Marchezan in a social network.

In the southeast, the metropolitan region of Vitória is the most populated with covid-19 patients in the country, with a rate of 87.8% in ICUs. The network includes public and private, philanthropic and federalized beds hired or contracted by the management of Renato Casagrande (PSB). The State registered 172,924 cases and 4,037 deaths related to the disease.

In Rio, the increase in the disease was again a cause for concern. In the capital, 80% of the approximately 520 public ICU places (including municipal, state and federal networks) were full last Tuesday (17). If only the municipal network is considered, the occupancy was 97%: the 251 municipal beds in the capital are occupied with only eight vacant beds.

The fire caused the Municipal Health Secretariat to send an internal letter to the city’s primary care coordinators last week: “We have experienced a significant increase in the number of influenza cases, confirmed cases and hospitalizations for covid-19 in the last weeks, “he warns. the declaration.

The capacity is also due to the reduction of beds in recent months. The only field hospital left was the city hall hospital, as outgoing governor Wilson Witzel (PSC) governor shut down all his units. The federal government also deactivated the few vacancies that existed at the Bonsucesso Hospital after a fire in October.

In São Paulo, the occupancy of parking spaces increased in November, from 40% at the beginning of the month to 43%. General hospitalizations, which include patients in the ward and ICU, were 6,650 at the beginning of the month and, on Monday (17), they were 7,705. Figures refer to the seven-day moving average up to the date indicated.

Despite this, ICU occupancy is even lower than that registered in the last survey, on August 10; on that date it was 59% both in the State and in the São Paulo capital. In São Paulo, capacity was 52% on Monday.

Belo Horizonte has 33.5% of ICU beds occupied for covid. At the moment, according to infectious diseases specialist Carlos Starling, a member of the city’s government’s confrontation committee against covid-19, there are no signs of a new business closure in the capital of Minas Gerais, which continues with some restrictions on days and times. For the opening of schools, he says, the criterion of less than 20 cases per 100,000 inhabitants was established as a safety parameter.

In Amazonas, all ICUs are concentrated in the capital, the first to collapse in the health network. While the state’s bed occupancy rate is increasing from 82% today, the number of beds for the disease has dropped from 223 to 142 since August.

Last Tuesday (17), Manaus exceeded the 3,000 dead mark in the pandemic. That same day, the government of the city of Manaus issued a decree that keeps Ponta Negra beach, the capital’s main public spa, closed until December 31.

Also worth noting is neighboring Pará, among the states that most reduced the number of disease beds in the pandemic. In the capital, Belém, the occupancy rate is 73%, but in general the beds distributed by the State maintain a rate of 50%.

In Amapá, a state that has been in a state of chaos with the power blackout in recent weeks, is also living with the advance of the pandemic. 79% of the ICU beds for covid-19 are occupied in the state, which even canceled elective surgeries due to lack of power supply.

In Centro-Ceste, previously with low rates of critical patients, Campo Grande registered, this week, 76% of ICU occupancy. If only SUS beds are considered, the rate is 83%, but the city council uses beds contracted to the private network to attend to cases of hospitalization due to covid-19. In the state, the situation is more comfortable, with an ICU occupancy rate of 29%.

In the last ten days, Pernambuco needed to mobilize ICU beds again for patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome due to the increase in cases.

On November 7, the occupancy rate for ICU / covid beds was 81% and the health authorities became concerned again.

The government expanded, in the last week, the offer of vacancies. It went from 780 to 833. On Tuesday (18), 73% of the 833 beds were occupied. As of early August, the rate was 63% for the number of 868 vacancies.
