Singer Ubirany de Fundo de Quintal dies of Covid-19 in Rio | Rio de Janeiro

The singer Ubirany Félix Do Nascimento de Fundo de Quintal, died of Covid-19 this Friday (11) in a hospital in Rio de Janeiro. He was 80 years old.

Ubirany was in charge of introducing the raising of hands into the world of samba, an instrument that gave identification to Fundo de Quintal, a group that he helped found in the 1970s.

In April, singer Sereno, also a member of the group, was diagnosed with coronavirus.

Grupo was born more than 40 years ago

The whole new generation of samba and pagodeiro dancers is influenced by the Fund de Quintal and it all started in Cacique de Ramos. Beth Carvalho met the members in 1977, when they were still fans, and gave a boost to the group’s career.

In 2018, the group released a DVD to celebrate their long career.

The sambista was admitted to the hospital due to complications derived from his contamination by Covid-19.

Afterwards, the staff will report questions about the samba dancer’s funeral and burial. We ask for respect for the grief of friends and family, who will manifest themselves at an opportune and spontaneous moment ”.
