Silvia Poppovic’s dismissal was confirmed by Band on Friday (24). The presenter had presented Aqui na Band for almost a year, together with Luís Ernesto Lacombe.
“The announcer confirms the presenter’s termination. Columnists Fernando Gomes, Nana Rude and Sergio Tannuri also abandon the attraction,” Band’s adviser reported in a note, highlighting other outings.
Later, the note concludes: “Luís Ernesto Lacombe and Nathália Batista are still in charge of Aqui na Band. Veruska Boechat will continue to participate in the attraction in special reports, just like chef Dalton Rangel, with his daily kitchen table.”
Because she was in her 60s, Silvia had been running her program at home for a month, due to the coronavirus quarantine. However, that decision was taken by surprise. “I did not expect. The program has sales sold, everything was going well,” the presenter told journalist Patrícia Kogut, a columnist for Jornal O Globo.
Flávio Ricco, a UOL columnist, had said that other columnists and participants in Aqui na Band could be fired. The journalist noted that much of this is due to the station’s financial adjustments, which announced a reduction in wages for many employees. “Grupo Band is negotiating all contracts above 10,000 reais, but only for PC, in the months of April, May and June,” Band said on the 20th.
Ricco previously said the decision included members of senior management, program and news presenters, journalism journalists and the sports department. The reduction would be around 25% of wages.
