One of the 41 people killed in the bus and truck accident on the Alfredo de Oliveira Carvalho Highway (SP-249), Fernanda Stefany Silva Pereira, 23, “was always in a good mood,” according to his friend William Souza, from 28. He said Twitter that Fernanda recently underwent cancer treatment.
“Fer was loved by many people, she got cancer a short time ago, about a year ago she was still receiving chemotherapy,” Soares said. “I always had a good vibe, a beautiful smile and bright eyes. I used to tell her that she smiled with her eyes. I lost some friends, but Fer was too special.”
The accident occurred yesterday morning at km 172 of the highway, in the Taguaí region. The bus was transporting the employees of a textile company. Forty-one people died and 11 were injured. The bodies were transferred to the IML Avaré (Medical Legal Institute), where a task force worked to identify and release the victims.
Souza, who works at a gas station and works in car polishing, said the last time he met Fernanda was last week. “We laughed, he asked me if I had left the post [de combustível] near your house. I said yes, I was working at home, and she praised my work and said to have faith that God would bless me, ”he commented.
For William, Fernanda will always be an inspiration. “Too sad, we lost a lot,” he said. “I never saw her without smiling, impossible, it was always a captivating smile, it captivated anyone, it is too special.”
Biggest accident of the year
The Military Police consider the accident the largest of the year, according to Lieutenant Alexandre Guedes. “It is the largest occurrence of a fatal accident on the roads this year,” he told GloboNews. According to him, the first hypothesis is that an overtaking could have caused the accident, but the investigations are still in an initial stage.
The Piraju Fire Department received the first call to attend to the incident at 6:45 am. The DER (Department of Roads and Highways) reported that this was the first fatal accident in the section of the Alfredo de Oliveira Carvalho Highway between Taguaí and Taquarituba in ten years.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Civil Police, the accident was caused by human error.
Irregular passenger transport
Star Fretamento e Locação Eirelli EPP, responsible for the bus involved in the accident, issued a note saying that it was providing assistance to the victims and stated that all the vehicle documentation is in a legal situation. However, according to Artesp (São Paulo State Transportation Agency), Star is not registered to transport passengers and has been operating illegally since October 2019.
Lawyer of Stattus Jeans Indústria e Comércio Ltda – where did the bus go – said Emerson Fernandes Twitter that transportation was a kind of “capacity” contracted by the employees themselves.
“It is important to say that the bus had no connection with the company, it was like a contractor hired by the employees, as if it were a capacity to come to work in Taguaí,” he said.
The lawyer reported that the company already had some buses that were looking for the workers, but that, for some time, it stopped providing this service and the employees came after hiring a company to transport them to work.
The City Council of Itaí enabled three sports gyms in the municipality to carry out the collective funeral of the victims, 40 victims lived in the city.
