Seven decomposing bodies were found on Friday (23) inside a shipment of fertilizers in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, reported the Reuters news agency. The container had left Serbia on July 21 and reached Paraguayan soil this week.

The bodies were discovered when the managers of the company that bought the fertilizer opened the shipment, said Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Saldivar.

“The supplies they had (cookies, water and canned food) were enough for 72 hours,” Saldívar said.

All the victims were adults; two had Moroccan identity documents. A receipt from a taxi company in Serbia was also found, suggesting that they entered the container in that country.

According to Saldívar, the people appear to have been migrants trying to enter South America illegally.

“We guess they got there [na Sérvia] from his home country and planned to travel to a closer destination, but he did not calculate the distance well and did not survive the trip, “Saldivar told Reuters.

Police also found bags of clothing and a ventilation opening in the area of the container where the bodies were found.

“All bodies are decomposed. It’s just hair and bones, ”Saldivar said.

The prosecutor declared that the route of the shipment would be verified, along with the cell phones found with the bodies. The Moroccan and Serbian authorities will also be contacted to try to determine the identity of the victims.
