It started in September, incndio that deals with the Serra do Cip National Park arrived on the ninth day this Monday (5). And the day began with four work fronts for firefighters, brigade members and volunteers. Of these, three have already become extinct. The most challenging remains, in the region known as Alto Palace.

It is a place of difficult access, a rocky wall with a height between 200 m and 300 m. The objective of the combatants until last night was to prevent the flames from reaching the top of the wall, where a flat area with a lot of vegetation is located.

The fear that the fight will return to zero if the fire get to that plain.

As a result, outbreaks near the Serra da Caetana, in the posadas sector and in the Cnion das Bandeirinhas were overcome during the day. Work this Monday began at 5:30 am.

In a note, the Chico Mendes Institute for the Conservation of Biodiversity (ICMBio) announced that, after nine days, the largest fire in this central region of Minas Gerais begins to increase.

“The general scenario of today’s fire is more favorable than in the previous days. The combat actions of that Sunday left a more favorable scenario for the combat operations of this morning ”, reported the ICMBio.

Resident Ana Paula Teixeira, involved with a Bell to collect supplies, she said she was outraged by the indifference of the tourists.

“Our mountain range ends in flames and people queuing at the doors of the waterfalls, filling the bars, most of them without masks, as if nothing had happened. It seems that there is no fire and the pandemic is over, “he said.

A brigadier, who preferred not to identify himself, said that he was very tired, but that as soon as he had the minimum conditions to put his boots back on he would return to the front.

“We saw some dead animals in the ashes, like snakes, incinerated insects, a running fox,” he says. There are indications that the fire, which started on Sunday (27), was of criminal origin and is already being investigated.

Belo Horizonte

During tonight firefighters reported that there was still a fire inside the structure. However, the military stopped work due to the lack of light and the difficulties in accessing the site.

Still, firefighters monitored the flames and surrounded the line of fire at strategic points. Until around 7 in the afternoon, the corporation was evaluating whether it would be possible to carry out some type of night combat.

Despite the scare, no victims were registered in the place or in the affected homes.
