The mayor of Tamandaré, Sérgio Hacker (PSB), could not be reelected. The current CEO is the husband of Sarí Corte Real, who has been charged with abandoning the disabled person with a death in the Miguel Case. The 5-year-old boy, the son of the couple’s maid, died after falling from the ninth floor of the luxurious building where the couple lives, in the center of Recife. The republican candidate Carrapicho won the elections with 54.52% of the votes, followed by the mayor with 43.12%.

After Miguel’s death, which occurred in July, an irregularity in the Tamandaré town hall came to light, involving Mayor Sérgio Hacker. Mirtes Souza, Miguel’s mother, and his mother, Marta Santana, worked as domestic workers for the mayor’s family, but they were on the payroll of the city council.

On July 1, the Pernambuco Public Ministry filed a demand for the mayor to answer for administrative impropriety. Since Miguel’s death, the boy’s mother and grandmother said they had not received any more wages.

In Tamandaré there were 14,442 votes, 13,712 of which were valid (94.95%). Approximately 1.28% of voters voted blank, 3.77% null, and there were 15.56% abstentions. In total, 2,661 people with the right to vote chose not to participate in the elections.
