a Sergeant of the Military Police (PM) in civilian clothes assaulted a lieutenant colonel with a punch after refusing to wear a mask in a supermarket in Centro de Aracati, in Ceará, on Thursday night (10) – see video above.
The police officers were summoned to the place by the establishment’s management because the sergeant refused to use the protection element and to leave the place. The battered lieutenant colonel was on the team that responded to the incident.
The property manager said he offered the man a mask as soon as he arrived, but the item was rejected. (read below).
The use of the mask in public and private spaces in Ceará is mandatory, according to the state law of July 10 of this year, as a protection measure against the spread of Covid-19. In case of non-compliance, the sanction can vary between R $ 100 and R $ 300 for individuals and up to R $ 1,001 for large companies.
According to the PM, the sergeant was transferred to the Military Judicial Police, where he was fined for physical assault on the lieutenant colonel and verbal assault on the supermarket manager. The sergeant was detained in the Military Jail.

In a note, A PM stated that “it does not approve of illegal conduct, so it strictly enforces legal regulations, naturally respecting the principles of innocence, contradiction and broad defense.”
The assault was detected by security cameras and customers at the supermarket. The image shows the lieutenant colonel and three other military policemen speaking with the undercover sergeant, who wears a shirt to cover part of his face.
At one point, the sergeant hits the lieutenant colonel, who is next to him, in the face and is then immobilized by the other policemen, who manage to handcuff him.

Manager says he offered mask
According to the supermarket manager, the plainclothes officer was approached by her at the entrance of the establishment, upon arriving without a mask.
“When I went to warn him that we could not let him in without a mask, because the people of the Casa Grande Group are also concerned about the whole, since we are in the middle of a pandemic, he said that he would not use the mask,” he reports.
The manager says that he still offered the agent a mask, in case he forgot his, but that the man did not want to receive the protection item. “I still indicated that I could give him the mask if he forgot, and he just pushed me and said he was going to do the shopping,” the woman said.
According to the manager, the Military Police were called to ensure the safety of other clients and employees, since the civilian officer did not want to wear the mask and refused to leave the place.
The woman also points out that the Casa Grande Group follows the guidelines of the World Health Organization regarding the use of a mask, distribution and use of alcohol gel and other protective measures against the new coronavirus. The professional also claims that the store offers masks for customers.
