Sergeant dies of sudden illness after saving young man from drowning off the coast of SP

After saving a 13-year-old teenager from drowning, José Cláudio Mantovani died last Sunday (6), on the coast of São Paulo. The retired sergeant from the Military Police lived in Cerqueira César, in the interior of São Paulo.

According to the police version, Cláudio, 60, heard the cry for help from the young woman who could not return to shore at Praia da Enseada, in Guarujá. The soldier then went to the sea to save the girl and managed to pull the teenager out of the water.

According to the Maritime Fire Brigade (GBMar), the retired sergeant had a sudden illness after saving the girl. A team of lifeguards was called in and the old man was pulled out of the water. Lifeless, firefighters found that the retired police officer was the victim of cardiac arrest.

Rescuers even attempted resuscitation procedures en route to get the man to an emergency room. However, the elderly did not respond to stimuli.
