The federal government decreed an emergency situation in Mato Grosso do Sul and Mato Grosso due to the fires. With this, the states will be able to strengthen prevention and fight against outbreaks, as well as maintain public services in the areas affected by the fire.

The chairman of the external commission will be Senator Wellington Fagundes (PL-MT) and the rapporteur, Nelsinho Trad (PSD-MS). The commission will last 90 days.

In addition to the two MPs, Senators Simone Tebet (MDB-MS) and Soraya Thronicke (PSL-MS) are members of the commission. All four members of the collegiate are from states affected by the fires.

The Minister of Regional Development, Rogério Marinho, met this Tuesday (15) with the Governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, Reinaldo Azambuja (PSDB), and announced the release of R $ 3.8 million for fire fighting actions. reaching the state.

In the first meeting, for the conformation of the commission, the senators approved a request for due diligence at the fire sites in Mato Grosso.

Next Saturday (19), the parliamentarians will visit the affected areas, such as the city of Poconé, in the state of Mato Grosso (102 km from the capital Cuiabá).

According to the forecast, MPs:

  • meet with teams working in the area;
  • talk to scientists, organizations, and farm and inn owners.

Fagundes stressed that the commission will serve to discuss solutions that can prevent “future disasters.”

For him, there is no legislation at the federal level that deals with the preservation of the Pantanal. Our proposal is to present a bill that establishes the general protection norm for the Pantanal Biome, called the Pantanal Statute, which includes objectives, principles, and general guidelines to promote the sustainable development of the region, with emphasis on the characteristics of the biome. and the longings. of the people of the Pantanal ”, he declared.

This Tuesday, the minority leader in the Senate, Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP), sent a letter to the president of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), José Múcio Monteiro, requesting an audit on the performance of the Ministry of the Environment ( MMA). ) in fire control.
