The Senate approved on Wednesday (10) the bill that aims to implement the payment of tolls on highways proportional to the distance traveled by the driver. The project must be analyzed by the Chamber of Deputies. The information is from the G1 portal. The system is already used in other countries, Brazil charges a fixed toll depending on the category of each vehicle.

If the Chamber approves it, the bill will go to presidential sanction. The text says that the system will be regulated by the Executive Power within 180 days after the publication of the law. The PL foresees the installation on the roads of equipment capable of identifying vehicles.

If a certain section of the road does not have the system, users will receive a discount on the amount of municipal taxes. The National Transport Confederation (CNT) has already issued a favorable opinion on the model. The CNT affirms that the identification of the cars to control the covered section can be carried out by means of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) or by means of an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) camera.
