The Senate Plenary approved on Tuesday (15) five loan applications between the federal government and international credit institutions. Loans totaled R $ 13.4 billion, divided between dollars and euros.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy will raise US $ 38 million from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (Bird). The funds will be used to partially finance the Technical Assistance Project for the Energy and Minerals Sectors – Project Meta-2nd Phase (MSF 98/2020). The Ministry of Citizenship will be able to borrow a billion dollars from the New Development Bank (NDB). The funds are used to finance the Emergency Program to Support the Income of Vulnerable Populations Affected by Covid-19 in Brazil (MSF 99/2020). Both requests were informed by the government leader in Congress, Senator Eduardo Gomes (MDB-TO).

Three other requests also refer to funding for the program for vulnerable populations. Does MSF 100/2020 propose to hire up to? 200 million between the Ministry of Citizenship and the French Development Agency (AFD); MSF 101/2020 foresees the contracting of US $ 1,000 million between the Ministries of Economy and Citizenship and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); and MSF 102/2020 proposes to contract US $ 350 million between the Ministry of Economy and the Andean Development Corporation (CAF). During the vote, the leader of the PT, Rogério Carvalho (SE), expressed concern about the loans, noting that the country could be financed with National Treasury bonds instead of incurring debts in foreign currency, which he described as a “setback.” “. Bezerra responded that the government needs to balance the debt to pay for the fight against the pandemic on various fronts, and recalled that this year more than R $ 600 billion in extraordinary credits were already issued.
