Starting this Thursday the 16th, they will be able to take the flu shot indigenous peoples, people with chronic non-communicable diseases, truck drivers, bus drivers and pickers, port professionals, prison staff, adolescents in socio-educational measures and detainees.

The vaccine applied this year protects against the three types of influenza viruses that circulated the most in the southern hemisphere in 2019: Influenza AH1N1), Influenza B and Influenza A (H3N2).

Although the flu vaccine does not protect against the new coronavirus, vaccination is recommended because the common flu can also present health risks to the population at risk, leading to hospitalizations and even death. Furthermore, with the vaccinated population, it is a way to facilitate the diagnosis of suspected covid-19.

The vaccination campaign began on March 23, and the target audience was the elderly, health professionals, and the security force. According to the Ministry of Health, 18.9 million elderly people (90% of the target) in the country were immunized. 3.8 million health workers (75.5%) were also vaccinated.

Truck drivers, public transport drivers and collectors, and dock workers are encouraged to present any supporting documents, such as a work permit or driver’s license (category C or E) at vaccination stations.

The vaccination campaign runs until May 22. The goal is to vaccinate at least 90% of each of these groups.
