Giovane Gaspar da Silva, 24, one of two Carrefour security guards arrested in the death of Beto Freitas, 40, told police there was no discussion prior to the assault. He also said that he had no intention of killing him.
Immediately after the arrest in flagrante delicto, he had chosen to remain silent, but this Friday (27) he spoke in testimony to the Civil Police for about four hours.
According to police Vanessa Pitrez, from the Homicide Department, the investigation was extended for another 15 days to clarify not only the circumstances of the death but also the motivation and responsibilities of each of those involved.

Silva, who is a temporary military police officer and was in his first day as a security guard, said he heard on the radio that cashier 25 was calling for help. “When he arrived, he saw the victim looking, in his words, somewhat angry, at the inspector. He would have patted the victim on the shoulder and asked if he was okay, if everything was okay. To which the victim replied that he was calm, he turned his back on him, ”said the delegate.
The security guard said that he did not know what had happened and decided to pursue him. At that time, he would have been hit by Beto’s punch. According to the delegate, he assumed that “in fact, he punched and kicked, to contain the situation.”
Silva’s defense had previously denied the intention to kill Freitas or a racist motive for the attacks and also hypothesized that the victim may have died of a heart attack.
“Forensics can also cause a heart attack. It is also suspected that Mr. João Alberto was under the influence of narcotics with such great force at that time. He also had downcast eyes and an enlarged iris, ”said defense attorney David Leal.
The images show that Beto Freitas was asphyxiated for almost four minutes, in front of 15 witnesses, after being beaten for at least two minutes by Silva and the security guard Magno Braz Borges.

In addition to the two security guards who attacked Beto Freitas, the supervisor of the supermarket Adriana Alves Dutra can be seen filming and observing the beatings without interfering in the action. She was arrested last Tuesday.
