Arrested for the death of the black citizen João Alberto Silveira de Freitas, Giovane Gaspar da Silva, 24 years old in testimony this Friday (27), denied that there had been any discussion before the assaults at the Rio Grande do Sul supermarket. He also said that his intention in attacking him was to immobilize the victim, who had beaten him, and not to kill.
The interim prime minister said that João Alberto He went alone to the parking lot and followed him. The security camera images show Giovane and Magno Borges Braz, 30, accompanying João. Upon reaching the parking lot, the victim hit Giovane. The security guard said he acted to restrain and immobilize João, who was “extremely aggressive” in his report. And he denied that he had intended to kill.
Gaspar was arrested on the spot, along with Magno, also security of the establishment. They were both silent on the first statement. Reinforced by the Civil Police, the interim PM provided clarification to the investigation for four hours, in the military prison where he has been since the day of the crime.

According to the delegate in charge of the case, Roberta Bertoldo, Giovane reported that on the night of the crime, he was warned by the store’s internal radio that “help was requested” in box 25,
When he got there, he found João Alberto “looking quite angrily at one of the inspectors.” The employee was heard by the Civil Police, in a statement obtained exclusively by Fantástico.
“He asked if everything was okay. The victim replied that he was okay and left,” says Roberta. “As he did not know what had happened, he decided to go after him,” he says.
What we already know about the João Alberto case
In addition to Giovane and Magno, she is arrested by the market surveillance agent, Adriana Alves Dutra, 51, who followed the action of the security guards. The Civil Police believe that, as she was responsible for guiding the store’s security guards, she could have acted to stop the assaults.
Asked in the statement, Giovane confirmed that Adriana was in charge of supervising them, but said that at the time of the crime, due to the noise at the scene, he did not listen to what she said.
Giovane also reported that, at a certain point, he realized that João had lost consciousness and thought he had passed out.
The Civil Police have listened to more than 40 people, analyzing images from a security camera and witness testimony to conclude the investigation. The autopsy report is expected next week.
João was assassinated after a disagreement between the victim and an employee of the supermarket, which is located in the North Zone of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.
The victim reportedly said something and gestured to the inspector, who called security. João Beto was shopping with his wife, Milena Borges.
The two white security guards led João to the parking lot. When he was close, João hit one of them. Then the attacks began. João was knocked to the ground, beaten and one of the security guards came to kneel on his back. A preliminary analysis of the autopsy report points to suffocation as a probable cause of death.
An ambulance was called, but João was already dead.
