The group organizes a demonstration in search of food and seeks to expose the needs of professionals in the sector.
School transport and tourism workers hold a manifesto in Ponta Grossa on Saturday (25). For more than a month in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, workers will have a minute of silence in front of the city’s Events Center. In addition, the group seeks to collect food that will be donated to those workers in the sector who need it most.
Alessandra R. M. Tortato is a worker in the sector and points out that the group gathers around 1,000 direct jobs in Ponta Grossa and only in the Campos Gerais region; this number includes carriers and also monitors who work in the sector. “In Ponta Grossa, we have not been able to work since March 20,” explains Alessandra.
The group will meet in front of the Events Center, in the Santa Paula region, starting at 2:30 pm. All participants must wear masks and appreciate social distance. At the site, organizers will collect food donations.
First sector to reach
Alessandra recalls that throughout the country, school transport workers were the first to interrupt activities. “We also know that we will be the last to return,” he explains. “We have been stagnant for more than 30 days, some parents understood and made payments for school transportation, many took advantage of the pandemic to not pay and canceled their contracts,” he says.
The worker also explains that this sector is “difficult by nature” and that now it has collapsed. “In the month of May, for sure, nobody will receive transportation,” he regrets. Alessandra points out that it was explained to the parents that, with the return of classes, the professionals will carry out the transportation of the children every day. “Even if it’s the weekends, holidays, school vacations, and end of the year vacations,” says Alessandra.
“Even so, even more with certain information that comes up, causing even more insecurity in parents about schools. It is very difficult to support our students,” explains the worker in the sector.
