Flamengo’s elimination in the Libertadores round of 16 last night (1) – a penalty shootout for Racing (ARG) -, SBT posted good numbers for their standards. The broadcast of the match valid for the Libertadores round of 16 set the national audience record for the station since the tournament arrived at Silvio Santos’ home in September. However, the channel was far behind Globo. The exception was in the three capitals that are strongholds of flamenco: Brasilia, Manaus and Vitória.
According to consolidated data obtained by sports, in the National Television Panel (PNT) measured by Ibope in the 15 main cities of Brazil, the game narrated by Téo José, with comments from Jorginho and Mauro Beting, obtained 11.5 points in the national average. At the same time, Globo closed with 23.4 and Record, with telenovelas and the reality show “A Fazenda 12”, with 8.4. If the trend continues, the game will be SBT’s largest national audience for the week.
The city that gave Ibope the biggest advantage for the party in the entire country was the capital of Amazonas. In Manaus, Racing x Flamengo scored 26.7 points. Globo came in second with 20.2 and Record scored 3.8 points. The leadership also came in Vitória, Espírito Santo, with 20.3 points against 17.3 points in Globo.
Finally, Brasilia completed the trio of leaders of the Silvio Santos channel. In the federal capital, Flamengo’s away draw scored 17.6 points against Globo’s 14.8 and Record 6.0. In other capitals, there was no victory, but a vice-leadership with solid numbers by SBT standards.
In Rio de Janeiro, the city most interested in the game, the match scored 18.7 points with peaks of 25, securing second place. Globo beat the most popular team in the city for the first time since Libertadores began to show itself for its competitor and scored 23.9 points, maintaining the leadership. In the penalty shootout that defined the future of the two teams, SBT won with a great advantage: 24 points on average with peaks of 25 against 12 in Globo and 11 in Record.
The worst results were recorded in Campinas and Belo Horizonte. In the city of São Paulo, there were 4.5 points. In the capital of Minas Gerais, the match scored 6.2 points. Salvador also gave the game a bad audience: 6.7 points. Without Flamengo to pump numbers across the country, the bet now is that Palmeiras, who has an easy brace in the competition, will hit sharper stages.
