Young Brenner commanded São Paulo’s 3-1 victory over Fluminense this afternoon (6) at the Morumbi Stadium. The match was valid for the eighth day of the Brazilian Championship.
Fluminense opened the scoring in the first half with Wellington Silva. Early in the second half, Brenner scored the equalizer and sent the remaining ball to Luciano to turn the score around. At 47 minutes, Vitor Bueno gave the final numbers to the game.
With the result, São Paulo retakes the vice-leadership, which had been lost yesterday with the victory of Flamengo over Fortaleza. Tricolor has 16 points and is behind Inter, who tied with Bahía and now have 17. Fluminense is seventh with 11 points.
On Wednesday (9), Fernando Diniz’s men receive Red Bull Bragantino. On the same day, Fluminense does the classic with Flamengo in Maracanã.
Brenner becomes a tricolor talisman
On the way back to rest, Fernando Diniz promoted the entry of Juanfran, Igor Gomes and Brenner. The only 20-year-old striker tied the game and was responsible for the comeback with less than ten minutes on the pitch. Script similar to last week’s game against Corinthians, when the player entered the second half and turned the game around in extra time.
What a day, Igor Vinicius!
The young winger until the game started well and managed to finish with 10 minutes of play, but the ball passed just near the post. At age 25, he was the pivot of the play that caused VAR to stop the game for nearly four minutes and received a yellow card. At the end of the first half, he still failed in the dominance that resulted in the Fluminense goal. Nor did he return to the complementary stage, being replaced by Juanfran.
Bronca worked
Fernando Diniz was very angry with the team during the first half and constantly yelled at the players. His discontent was total after the failure of Igor Vinicius that led to the Fluminense goal. Igor was one of three replaced shortly after the break. The abrupt change resulted in a few minutes, with São Paulo taking the lead on the scoreboard in just 10 minutes, with the participation of two of their changes: Igor Gomes and, mainly, Brenner.
Fluminense in the second half
Odair Hellmann’s team started the game very well. Until the middle of the first half, he had more ball possession and went ahead with Wellington Silva. However, the change of course in the first minutes of the second half did not allow Fluminense to manage the advantage. In one of the few opportunities she had, Nenê sent the ball over the goal.
Did you need the VAR or not?
At 25 years of the first half, Igor Vinicius and Luccas Claro fell to the ground. The flag had missed the attack and the VAR went into action. In the TV Globo broadcast, the commentator Paulo César de Oliveira even described the interference of the video referee as “undue”, but minutes later a new image showed that the referee had scored a penalty.
With the help of the video, Paulo Roberto Alves Júnior confirmed the lack of attack and gave Igor Vinicius a yellow card.
The conference interrupted play for nearly four minutes. At age 31, the game came to a halt again to hydrate athletes. Despite the series of saves, the referee gave only five minutes of raises in the first half.
Fluminense opens the scoring with a beautiful goal
In the 39th minute, Marcos Felipe made a clearance for the attack. The ball was easy for Igor Vinicius to dominate, but he was fooled by the rebound. Good for Wellington Silva, who took the excess, cut the right foot and sent from the entrance of the area to the goal.
Lightning spin
10 minutes into the second half, São Paulo was already ahead of the scoreboard. At four, Igor Gomes took a corner kick and the ball deflected before landing at Brenner’s feet to tie the game.
Four minutes later, the boy ran off the mark and kicked again, but sent the post. The ball is left to Luciano, who only had the trouble of sending it to the empty net.
Game timeline
Fluminense opened the scoring in the 39th minute with Wellington Silva taking advantage of Igor Vinicius’ miss and kicking hard. The tri-color twist came early in the second half, with Brenner scoring, and then Luciano, who caught the rebound from Brenner’s crossbar and pushed into the goal.
At 47 minutes into the second half, Vitor Bueno fired a beautiful long shot and scored the third goal for São Paulo.
