Finally, São Paulo beat Palmeiras inside Allianz Parque. Tonight, for the 15th day of the Brazilian Championship, Fernando Diniz’s team applied 2-0 and reached 26 points, climbing to third place in the competition, behind Atlético-MG and Flamengo.
The visitors were better in the match and ended up rewarded with a penalty converted by Reinaldo and, in the end, with a goal by Vitor Bueno. With that, Tricolor won for the first time inside Allianz Parque, after ten games played; previously, the results totaled eight wins and a draw for the homeowners. Still: This was the team’s first win over the opponent since May 27, 2017.
On the next day, Palmeiras, parked with 22 points in fifth place, will face Coritiba, on Wednesday, also at home, at 6pm. In fact, the team lost its undefeated record in the competition on the final lap, when it fell to Botafogo. Now, it’s two losses in a row.
São Paulo faces Grêmio, but on the 17th (Saturday), at 9:00 p.m., in Morumbi. In the middle of the week, Tricolor starts his career in the Copa do Brasil against Rogerio Ceni’s Fortaleza away from home, and he leaves with two consecutive victories in the national tournament in his suitcase.
Tricolor starts better, but Palmeiras presses at the end
The game started with a lot of exchange of passes, one team studying the other and trying to reach the attack with the ball on the ground. The first shot on goal came from Igor Vinicius, close to eight minutes, but he passed well away from the posts. On the next play, a miss-out was brilliant, and Brenner hatched to kick Jailson, also far.
São Paulo continued more objective, trying to open the scoring, although with little efficiency. The home team, on the other hand, could not hold the ball, much less attack. Alviverde’s clearest first opportunity came in the 19th minute, with a dangerous cross from Lucas Lima, but taken from behind.
Tricolor almost opened the scoring minutes later, when Igor Gomes climbed between Felipe Melo and Luan after a cross from Reinaldo and headed into the left corner of Jailson. São Paulo kept pushing and, with one out in midfield, Palmeiras managed a shot on goal with Wesley in the 24th minute and had a chance on a set ball shortly after, but was stopped by the opposing defense. The next dangerous moves came in 36, when Wesley fired from the left and received a poisonous cross, and in 40, kicked by Reinaldo.
Tricolor scores and Alviverde plays with “one less”
Without changes in the line-up, the game was restarted and São Paulo had a chance at 4 minutes, with a good shot to the center from Igor Gomes, who passed the ball to Reinaldo from the left to kick hard, for Jailson’s defense . Brenner headed off shortly after Igor Vinícius arrived from the right. Two dangerous plays for the visitors in sequence, as happened in the first stage.
At 8 minutes, the referee awarded Igor a penalty after being knocked down by Esteves in the area. Reinaldo charged and scored. After that, Luxembourg made three changes, but without any effective improvement, on the contrary: Reinaldo almost reached second at 22 on the counterattack. At 30 minutes, defender Luan was injured and, with the five substitutions already made, ended up being transferred to attack to “do a number.”
Palmeiras managed to press on a free kick from Scarpa, in a beautiful defense from Volpi with a changed hand. However, it was just that: Alviverde kept trying, putting pressure on the opponent inside the area, but without success. At the end of the match, São Paulo reached the second goal with Vitor Bueno, after a bid between Reinaldo and Igor Vinícius
