Santos is negotiating the return of striker Robinho.

Close to a deal with Hamburg, Germany, to pay off the debt by hiring defender Cleber Reis and get rid of the FIFA punishment that prevents him from signing up new players, Santos stepped up talks to sign Robinho. The forward was convicted in 2017 of sexual violence in Italy; the case is on appeal.

In recent days, Santos officials have returned to negotiate with Marisa Alija, Robinho’s lawyer and representative. The expectation now is that a face-to-face meeting is scheduled for next week.

The player has been free on the market since the departure of Basaksehir, from Turkey, in the middle of the year, and he already knows Peixe’s interest in hiring him.

Robinho even received polls in the period in which he is without a club, but none advanced. The forward, then, remains in Santos awaiting a more concrete attack from Peixe, who will pay Hamburg in the coming days and can sign again.

Born in Santos, Robinho has been with the club for three seasons. The forward has played 246 games and has scored 109 goals for Peixe. He was one of Alvinegro’s stars in the conquests of the Brazilian Championship in 2002 and 2004.

The Rei das Pedaladas returned two more times (2010 and 2014), when they won the Paulistão (2010 and 2015) and the Copa do Brasil (2010).

Robinho was sentenced to nine years in prison for sexual violence in Italy. According to the sentence, the crime occurred on January 22, 2013, along with five other men, and the victim is of Albanian origin. The sentence came in 2017, when the forward had already left Italian football, defending Atlético-MG at that time.
