Two sanitary barriers were installed this Saturday (5) and Sunday (6) in two points of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, to prevent the passage of tourist buses and vans in the city. According to the Santos City Council, the objective is to stop the lack of respect for sanitary measures to combat Covid-19, since last week the issuance of new authorizations by the Ministry of Tourism (Setur) was suspended.
This is the second weekend with the installation of sanitary barriers. They are located on Avenida Presidente Wilson, on the edge of José Menino, near the border with São Vicente, and on Avenida Martins Fontes, in Saboó, the main access for those who come from the Capital and the countryside. The barriers will be in charge of the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM), in conjunction with the Traffic Engineering Company and Setur, with the support of the Military Police.
The inspection will also be maintained in the commercial establishments of the City, in order to verify compliance with schedules and sanitary measures for the control of the pandemic. The commercial inspection will be in charge of the Department of Commercial Inspection and Road Activities (Defemp) and the Sanitary Surveillance Section (Sevisa).
The measure was decided during a meeting, on November 26, between the inspection bodies of the City Council. According to the municipal administration, the goal is to reduce the number of people on the beaches, since the number of coronavirus cases has been growing in the city. Hospitals had to reorganize exams and open Covid-19 beds following an increase in hospitalizations in Santos in November.
Santos is the city with the highest number of admissions for Covid-19. According to the latest municipal bulletin. issued on Friday (4), the occupancy rate of the 715 Covid-19 beds is 47%. Among the 283 ICU beds, the occupancy is 53%. In SUS this rate is 42% and in the private network 66%.
