The sambista, and one of the members of the Fundo de Quintal group, Ubirany Félix do Nascimento, Ubirany, died today at the age of 80.
According to the group’s notice, the death was due to complications from covid-19. He was admitted to a hospital in Rio de Janeiro for treatment.
The group did not say when the funeral and burial will take place.
Ubirany was one of the strong names in samba and pagode due to the tradition and reference that the Fundo de Quintal brought to the rhythm.
The group was formed in the mid-1970s in the pagodas of Cacique de Ramos, an environment that gave world music names like Zeca Pagodinho. Since then, he has influenced various groups and singers.
The samba kept the hand, along with Sereno, who had the disease in April, Márcio Alexandre, Júnior Itaguay, Ademir and Bira Presidente.
Ubirany was godson of Beth Carvalho, another name referred to in samba.
He was one of the members of the group’s first formation, such as Bira Presidente and Sereno. At that time, the training was with Jorge Aragão -who also had the honor this year-, Almir Guineto, Sombrinha and Neoci.
The group also featured passages by Arlindo Cruz and Walter Sete Cordas.
Samba is sad without repeating
Teresa Cristina mourned the loss of music, to whom she attributed the invention of hand bouncing.
“A true gentleman. Always smiling, elegant. This terrible virus takes a piece of the suburb of Rio,” he wrote.
