Governor Rui Costa announced on Sunday (21) that the curfew in Bahia will be brought forward to 8 pm, instead of 10 pm, as is practiced since Friday. The new schedule will start on Monday (22). The decision is linked to the occupancy of ICU beds in the state, which reached 80%.
“Unfortunately, we have reached the 80% occupancy mark for ICU beds in #Bahia and the consequence will be the extension of the curfew. As of this Monday, the 22nd, the restriction will be from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. : 00 am. The West region will be the only exception in updating the decree, “wrote Rui. With that, Irecê and Jacobina, who were excluded in the previous decree, also enter the curfew.
“The face-to-face service in bars and restaurants will be until 6:00 p.m. Metropolitan transport will operate until 8:30 p.m. Food delivery until 11:00 p.m. The measures aim to contain the advance of the coronavirus. We are living in a time of extreme gravity and I count on everyone’s understanding ”, he added.
On Friday, the governor had already spoken of tightening the measure according to the occupancy rate. “We continue to grow in numbers, both in beds and in active cases. People need to collaborate, wear a mask, wash their hands and keep their distance. Otherwise, if the numbers continue to grow, we will have to take other measures. If it reaches the 80% in the coming days, I will immediately extend the curfew ”, he said in an interview with TV Bahía.
For the governor, tough measures are difficult, but they are better than the scenario of chaos that can occur in the face of the collapse of the system. “We cannot repeat scenes that, unfortunately, happened in other states, of desperate families at the doors of UPAs or hospitals, or crying at the doors of cemeteries for their loved ones.”
Other measures such as the closure of operations are not ruled out. “The restriction of the operation of what generates more agglomeration and that generates more contagion, activities more linked to contagion rates. These activities are those that are carried out without the use of a mask and in confined, closed places ”, he evaluated in the same interview.
Lack of respect for the decree
Twenty-three people were fined for not respecting the curfew, in Bahia, on the second day of compliance with the state decree. The events occurred in Salvador, in the Metropolitan Region and in cities in the interior of the state.
Between 10 pm on Saturday (20) and 5 am on Sunday (21), a person was arrested and evaluated in Salvador. Another was located in the Itinga neighborhood, in the city of Lauro de Freitas.
The evaluations were also carried out in the municipalities of Teixeira de Freitas, Vitória da Conquista, Juazeiro, Jequié, Tanhaçu, Itapé, Camacan, Muniz Ferreira, Presidente Dutra, Itacaré, Barra da Estiva and Brumado.
Round
Ten districts of Salvador were visited, in the early hours of Sunday (21), by the secretary and undersecretary of Public Security, Ricardo Mandarino and Hélio Jorge, respectively. The round was promoted to evaluate how the population behaved on the second day of the curfew.
During the visit to the Mussurunga neighborhood, a bar installed on the veranda of a house was seen open. Inside, two men were drinking alcohol. As soon as the owner was warned, the establishment closed.
“We perceive a great adhesion of the population throughout the state. We hope that Bahians and tourists continue to observe the curfew,” declared Secretary Ricardo Mandarino.
