The author J.K. Rowling, creator of the Harry Potter universe, announced on Saturday the donation of a million pounds sterling (around R $ 6.9 million) to non-governmental organizations. The announcement was made on the 22nd anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, a key event in the final book of the saga.

The day is celebrated annually by the author, who generally shares curiosities of the story among her followers on the social network, Twitter. The approach, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, was different: “I will be honest and say that today it does not seem correct to speak of fictitious deaths,” he said.

“A lot of people are losing loved ones in the real world. So on this anniversary of the great magical victory, I am thinking of those who are doing their job to protect us and our way of life.”

The money will be divided between two institutions: Crisis, which carries out actions during the pandemic targeting homeless people, and Refuge Against Domestic Violence, an organization that supports women victims of domestic violence.

“As in crises like this, the poorest and most vulnerable are the most affected. So in honor of the Battle of Hogwarts, I am making a donation of £ 1 million,” said Rowling.
