Two people died, one disappeared and six were injured after a head of water hit a complex of waterfalls, between São José da Barra and Capitólio (MG), cities located in the central-western region of Minas.
The water head is a phenomenon in which rapid increase and sudden the level of a river due to rain in the headboards or on higher sections of your route.
According to the Fire Department, the force of the waters dragged at least thirteen bathers, who were having fun in the place. Three of them were stranded on a rock in the middle of the waterfall’s watercourse and one had an open leg fracture.
Another group was dragged to the opposite bank of the waterfall and had to wait for the water level to drop. The most serious situation, however, was that of the bathers who were taken to Lake Furnas, a place known as Poço dos Quênios.
According to the military, the three victims were swept away by the large volume of water and at least two died when they fell into the well. One was found submerged and the other on the surface.
The firefighters are looking for a third person. They also said that searches will resume Sunday morning, because visibility is low at night.
Eleven soldiers from the Midwestern cities of Minas were called in. The victims who were stranded had to be rescued by the Fire Department helicopter.
