Rio police arrested a man for assaulting his grandmother. Security cameras recorded the attacks.

The images of the elevator of the building where the family lives in Leblon, in the South Zone of Rio, show the latest attack. It was Thursday (19), around 8pm. Matheus da Luz pours water from a bottle on his 76-year-old grandmother’s head and seems to argue with her. Then hit the panel.

Neighbors called the police. They denounced that the old woman had a habit of sitting on the sofa in the hall so as not to be attacked at home.

In testimony at the police station, Matheus da Luz, 21, said that he is unemployed and living on the pension his grandmother receives. He said he lost his head and the violence started in the elevator because he had not received money for five days.

Matheus confessed that “the grandmother’s injuries were caused by strong pushing and grabbing.”

“He also confesses from the top of his coldness that he put out cigarettes on the victim’s body and it is a completely shocking situation,” said Police Chief Felipe Santoro.

According to the police, the grandmother was also heard and tried to protect Matheus. He said that his grandson is a breeder, that he managed to keep him as a child, that he has suffered from psychiatric problems since he was a child and has already been hospitalized.

As for the injuries to his body, he claims they were caused by the family’s “dog.” But, according to the Police, the report of the Legal Medical Institute reveals that the old woman was beaten.

Matheus da Luz has six more criminal notes. Among them, a threat against his grandmother in 2017 and an assault on his mother last year.

This Saturday (21), the court ordered his preventive detention. Matheus will answer for bodily injury, domestic violence, discrimination and humiliation of the elderly and damages.

They provoke a huge social repudiation and a natural indignation for all these facts that must be fought vehemently ”, says the delegate.
