Rio Grande do Sul vaccinates the first five people against Covid-19

Rio Grande do Sul lived a historic night this Monday, January 18. After the start of vaccination in São Paulo this Sunday, it was the State’s turn to have the first person immunized against Covid-19 in the State. The ceremony took place at the Hospital de Clínicas and was broadcast online by the state government.

The event started hours late. Initially scheduled for 5 p.m., it was postponed more than once throughout the afternoon. for the delay in the flight from São Paulo, with doses of Coronavac.

In this first batch, 341 thousand doses were sent to the State by the responsible health agencies. Vaccination in Rio Grande do Sul occurs with the immunizer from the Chinese institute Sinovac, produced in Brazil by the Butantã Institute.

The five representatives of the priority groups were simultaneously immunized against Covid-19. Eloína Gonçalves Borne, 99, who lives in a geriatric home, was the representative of the long-term institutions.

In addition to that, four other people were vaccinated. Representing the indigenous population, Carla Ribeiro, 30 years old. The professional of Grupo Hospitalar Conceição, representative of the cleaning sector, Joelma Kazemirski, 48; the Clinical Nursing Technician, Aline Marques da Silva, 40, and Jorge Hamilton Boeher, from Santa Casa de Porto Alegre.

The first 341 thousand doses will be destined health professionals, the elderly, indigenous people and residents of long-term nursing homes.

Governor Eduardo Leite cited the difficulties during the fight against the pandemic and the difficulties in establishing social distancing measures, but celebrated the start of vaccination. “I thank the front-line professionals who worked and are working to guarantee service to the people of Rio Grande do Sul,” he said.

The event was also attended by the Secretary of Health, Arita Bergman. Excited, she highlighted the important moment for Rio Grande do Sul, and celebrated the arrival of the day of the start of immunization. “We are sure that from today we will win. It is a day of hope and a lot of emotion,” he stressed.
