Rio Grande do Sul once again presented areas with high epidemiological risk of contagion to the coronavirus. The preliminary map of the twenty-fifth round of Controlled Distancing, released this Friday by the State Government, classified the regions of Cruz Alta, Ijuí and Santo Ângelo as red flags after presenting a worsening in their indicators last week.

The regions of Bagé, Cachoeira do Sul and Palmeira das Missões, which were classified in yellow in round 24, also worsened in the indicators and went to the orange flag in this new round.

The other 15 regions – Porto Alegre, Canoas, Novo Hamburgo, Santa Rosa, Capão da Canoa, Caxias do Sul, Passo Fundo, Santa Maria, Guaíba, Lajeado, Pelotas, Santa Cruz do Sul, Erechim and Uruguaiana – continue with the orange flag , which represents a medium epidemiological risk for the coronavirus. With that, there are no yellow flags in this new phase.

Rio Grande do Sul arrived this Friday about 5,554 deaths related to Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic and has 230,944 infected by the coronavirus spread in 495 of the 497 municipalities of the state.

The co-managed regions classified under the orange flag can adopt yellow flag rules, it is enough that they send their own adapted protocols to the Secretariat for Articulation and Support to Municipalities (Saam). The measure is valid for Santa Maria, Capão da Canoa, Taquara, Novo Hamburgo, Canoas, Porto Alegre, Santo ngelo, Cruz Alta, Ijuí, Santa Rosa, Palmeira das Missões, Erechim, Passo Fundo, Pelotas, Caxias do Sul, Cachoeira do Sul, Santa Cruz do Sul and Lajeado.

Municipalities and regional associations can submit reconsideration requests until 6:00 am on Sunday, which will be analyzed so that the final flags are launched on Monday. The new phase of Controlled Distance officially goes into effect on Tuesday.

Discharge from hospitalizations

The number of new hospitalizations confirmed by Covid-19 caught the attention of the team that monitors the indicators. Between the last two weeks, the increase was 21% -from 739 to 897-, which reflected the increase of 13% of patients hospitalized in clinical beds confirmed with Covid-19. The number of deaths increased 11% between the last two weeks, from 213 to 236.

However, hospitalizations for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in the ICU decreased by 7% and there was relative stability in those confirmed with Covid-19 in the ICU (increase of only 1%). Even counting patients hospitalized for other causes, there was a decrease in the number of occupied ICU beds. The maintenance of the total number of ICU beds again translated into an increase in the proportion of free beds for each occupied by Covid-19.
