The organizers finished the race and canceled the other events scheduled for today (8) in Interlagos.

In a statement on the official website of SuperBike Brazil, the organization of the event refers to the rider as follows: “Matheus was a highly experienced rider with titles in his career, including the Brazilian SuperSport Champion. He had all the necessary credentials as a pilot and complied with all the strict security protocols in force. Among the more than 350 pilots in the Matheus Championship, he had, among other psychological characteristics, the fastest response rate and reflex attested by the annual psychotechnical tests, similar to those carried out in commercial civil aviation ”.

The death of the Goiani pilot should reignite criticism about Interlagos’ safety for motorcycle tests. Just over a year ago, two other accidents killed the pilots Maurício “Linguiça” Padulete and Danilo Berto, the first in April and the other in May 2019. The championship was suspended but resumed in August, after the adoption of stricter security procedures.
