A resident of a luxury condominium in Goiânia did not allow an application delivery man to enter, claiming that he was black and would only accept if it were a white delivery person. “I will not allow this monkey,” he wrote in exchange for messages with the manager of the burger joint where he had placed the order.

The case occurred on Sunday night (25), around 11pm. The woman’s address was incomplete on the application, indicating only the condo, but no block or lot number. When requesting more information so that the delivery man could report at the entrance and make the delivery, the manager of the establishment, Ana Carolina Gomes, 18, was surprised by the messages sent.

“This black man is not going to enter my condo,” the resident sent. The conversation was made through the application chat. Ana was talking to the client on the computer and, at the same time, she was with the delivery man, Elson Oliveira Santos, on the phone. I was waiting for the data to make the delivery.

“I was amazed, staring at the computer screen, not knowing what to do, because I had Elson on the phone. I told him to return, not to turn in, because there had been a hate crime against him, ”said Ana. The owner of the burger, Éder Leandro Rocha, explained that they weren’t sure how to tell Elson what the woman had actually said. “He kept asking the reason for the cancellation. We told him, but it was a shame. He ended up for the rest of the night.” The delivery man managed to make two more deliveries after the incident.

Elson is from Maranhão, he is 39 years old, he has lived in Goiânia for 16 years and works as a delivery man for more than a decade. The immediate reaction was outrage and pain. “One way or another, it hurts. I keep thinking about my daughters seeing me go through this and thinking that they can go through this too,” she said. In the exercise of his function, it was the first time he faced a situation of racism. He reported that he stood between 10 and 15 minutes at the entrance of the condominium, waiting for the complete data to make the delivery. Investigation

This afternoon, Elson, the owner and manager of the hamburger joint, will register the incident at the State Commissariat for the Suppression of Cyber ​​Crimes (DERCC), in Goiânia. The idea, at first, is to track down and confirm the identity of the alleged inhabitant of the luxury condominium and then file a complaint for the crime of racism.

As the address was incomplete, with only the woman’s name, the owner of the burger joint, Éder Rocha, considered that it is important to certify the correct name and address of the person to make the subsequent complaint of racism effective.
