In Belo Horizonte, 36% of residents want to move, according to a Datafolha survey. Young people between 16 and 24 years old are the ones who top the list of discontent with the capital. The research was also carried out in Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
Datafolha listened to 868 people aged 16 and over in Belo Horizonte and Recife, 1,204 in São Paulo and 1,008 in Rio. The poll was conducted on Tuesday (20) and Wednesday (21) and has a margin of error of three percentage points or so. The survey was commissioned by the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo and TV Globo.
The most unhappy with the city where they live are São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In these cities, half of the residents would change cities if they could. Among Paulistanos, 51% want to move, compared to 57% of Cariocas.
In Recife, 37% of those surveyed want to leave the city.
The youngest, from 16 to 24 years old, are the majority of those who expressed their desire to leave the city if they could in most capitals. The exception is São Paulo, where the age group that most wants to change is 35 to 44 years old.
The richest and oldest people, in general, do not show any intention to migrate.
Datafolha also asked respondents what they think should be a priority in the next mayor’s tenure. In the four capitals, hospitals appear first, followed by public schools.
In Belo Horizonte, public transport is the item that occupies the third place. Popular housing is the third most voted option in São Paulo, since it occupies basic sanitation in Recife and Rio.
