RIO – The businessman Rafael Alves, designated as the operator of the supposed “bribery headquarters” scheme in Riotur, interceded with Mayor Marcelo Crivella (Republicans) to prevent the demolition of Senator Romário’s (Pode-RJ) house in Barra da Tijuca , Zona Oeste de Rio. Messages taken from Rafael Alves’ cell phone – the device was seized in March, in the first phase of the operation – show that, on March 15, 2018, he sent a message to Crivella addressing the issue. The material is in the possession of the Public Ministry of Rio (MP-RJ), which is investigating the case. On the 7th of that month, a report from the secretariat had defended the demolition.
“Now I know that tomorrow Romário’s house is going to be demolished. If you can try to hold on to that. He called me here and he was our partner. It would destroy his life. He said he wants to go there and fix whatever it takes. And that ends these silly fights and indifference. We are good people, ”the businessman wrote, citing exchanges of public tines between the senator and the mayor that had occurred shortly before.
