The heavy rains announced by the Meteorological Institutes for the holidays have arrived and are already causing damage in some cities of Espírito Santo. Vargem Alta, for example, is the municipality that recorded the highest amount of rain in the last 24 hours. It was 185.20 millimeters.

According to the Civil Defense bulletin, released on the morning of Saturday (31), the community of Morro do Sal, in the southern city of the state, had access blocked by the river, which rose in level and flooded the two passages for this site.

In the Jaciguá neighborhood, also in Vargem Alta, a person was trapped inside a vehicle after getting stuck in the mud and was rescued by residents of the region. In Córrego Alto and Prosperidade, bridges were damaged by rain and left places without access.

In Córrego do Ouro, vehicles cannot pass due to flooding. In the center of the municipality, a flood caused by the rising of the Novo River caused the flooding of streets.

Also according to the Civil Defense, it rained a lot in several cities of Espírito Santo, but there are no registered records.

The rain will continue

According to the Meteorological Institutes, the rain shouldn’t stop. The Center for Meteorological Forecasting and Climate Studies (CPTEC) generated a special warning informing the risk of significant accumulated rains for the southern, mountainous and central regions of the state.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), for its part, warned of the risk of heavy rains at the Danger level for the entire state.
