Leila Arruda, PT candidate for the Curralinho City Council, in the Marajó archipelago, was stabbed to death and beaten on Thursday afternoon (19) in Belém.
According to relatives, she was a victim of feminicide and murdered at her door, in the Tenoné neighborhood. Also according to relatives, the alleged perpetrator of the crime is her ex-husband, from whom she was separated for three years and suffered persecution.
Leila Arruda was 49 years old and was the founder and activist of the Movement of Women Entrepreneurs of the Amazon (Moema), she joined the PT in Curralinho at age 20 and was trained in pedagogy.
Police have yet to comment on the case. The Legal Medical Institute (IML) confirmed that he was called to remove the body from his home in the Tenoné neighborhood.
In a statement, the PT of Pará mourned the death, said she was a militant and confirmed that she was killed by her ex-husband.
The note also announces “outrage over this brutal crime that claimed the life of one more woman in the state and reiterates that it is unacceptable for women to be hostages to violence caused by entrenched machismo in society.” PT also said that “she is helping Leila Arruda’s family and friends.”
