Lieutenant Colonel Gabryela Dantas, exonerated yesterday from the position of communication coordinator of the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro for attacking a journalist, will assume command of the Lebanese PM Battalion in the south of the city. The 23rd BPM is in charge of monitoring the neighborhoods of Leblon, Ipanema, Gávea and Jardim Botânico.
For the position of communication coordinator of the PM, the command of the corporation appointed Major Ivan Blaz, who has served in other years.
The exoneration was determined by the interim governor of Rio, Cláudio Castro, after the lieutenant colonel appeared in a video published on PM channels on social networks making personal criticisms of a reporter from the newspapers Extra and O Globo.
“Every day we are questioned and many times victims of accusations. Even so, I defend dialogue with the press. The debate of ideas is important, but it is necessary to preserve and respect both sides,” the governor wrote on Twitter when talking about the exoneration yesterday.

The lieutenant colonel’s comments were made after the publication of an article that used official data from the corporation itself to show the increase in the consumption of ammunition by police officers in the battalion investigated for the deaths of the girls Emily and Rebeca, in the past Saturday (5).
The corporation’s spokeswoman described the journalistic work as “cowardly and unscrupulous,” among other adjectives, in addition to citing the professional’s name and encouraging sharing of the video. His speech sparked a wave of attacks against the journalist.
Castro made the decision yesterday afternoon and also demanded the exclusion of content from social networks. The governor was told that the decision to record the video was made by the lieutenant colonel herself.
The Military Police of Rio also issued a note after the dismissal, where “it clarifies that, by personalizing the discontent in a reporter, [a porta-voz] he crossed a limit that damaged the balance of his performance. We recognize the value of freedom of the press. “
Press agencies criticize PM
The class entities and organs that act in defense of freedom of expression expressed repudiation of the policeman’s attitude.
