Valter Barbosa, 55, was shot to death in his car last Wednesday (13) on the Régis Bittencourt highway, in the interior of São Paulo. The victim is the superintendent of port operations of the Santos Authority (formerly Codesp).

Valter, a retired officer in the Brazilian Navy, was killed in front of his wife. Police are working on the ambush hypothesis, according to G1’s findings.

The captain of the test tube would take charge of the driving license in the port of Imbituba, in Santa Catarina.

According to police, the superintendent was closed by a car, which began to maneuver to force him to stop. As soon as the vehicle stopped on the shoulder, Barbosa and his wife were approached by two masked men with pistols, who announced an assault and demanded the couple’s belongings.

Valter’s wife said that when she got out of the vehicle, she heard gunshots from bandits, who took the victim’s cell phone and wallet.

Barbosa was rescued, but could not resist his injuries. The retired officer’s partner was ill and also needed help.

Read the note from the Santos Port Authority on crime

The Santos Port Authority (SPA) communicates to the entire Santos port community, with deep regret and sadness, the death of Valter Barros Barbosa, who held the position of superintendent of port operations at the Company until May 12. Valter passed away this Wednesday night, on the Régis Bittencourt road (BR-116). The circumstances of the death are being investigated by the competent authorities and the Port Authority does not have details of the case.

The former superintendent had just left the SPA and was heading to the State of Santa Catarina, to assume the direction of Infrastructure and Logistics at SCPar Porto de Imbituba (SC). Valter was an example of a leader and co-worker who taught and inspired many in just over a year of SPA experience. Not only with his professional excellence, but, above all, with his simplicity and willingness to listen and speak.

Due to his retirement from the SPA, he received a tribute from friends and colleagues of the Superintendency of Port Operations, immortalized in a plaque of thanks for the “fruitful management” delivered by the Director of Operations, Marcelo Ribeiro, who invited him to the position in the Company. The two worked together twice in the Navy.
