On Saturday (11), the Pope performed the solemn Easter vigil ceremony. The celebration did not have the presence of faithful or baptisms either. The measures are to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. Last Friday (10), the Pope had already celebrated the Passion of Christ with the empty St. Peter’s Basilica.

Since last week, Pope Francis has held general audiences and the Angelus without the faithful to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. The pontiff has also kept the recommended prudent distance from his interlocutors.

The basilica and St. Peter’s Square remain closed, following the recommendations of the Italian authorities.
