The dead were in a convoy made up of four cars and were intercepted by a detachment of the Civil Police and the Federal Highway Police. Police said the militants started a shootout as soon as they were arrested. A policeman was injured in the confrontation.

According to the delegate Rodrigo Oliveira, undersecretary of Planning and Operational Integration of the Civil Police, the train was made up of militiamen linked to Danilo Dias Lima, the Tandera.

They had been monitored for about 15 days by the task force’s intelligence service, which found frequent movement of criminals on a route that connects the West Zone with Baixada Fluminense, where the group tries to expand its activities.

With the gang, the police found eight rifles, pistols, machine guns, ample ammunition, and grenades. Furthermore, the vehicles used on the train were stolen or cloned.

However, the police did not provide the names of the dead, anticipating that one of them is a head of the militia in Itaguaí.

After the death of two candidates for councilor in Baixada Fluminense, the Civil Police created a working group to guarantee the security of the elections and the right to vote. The crimes occurred during an interval of 11 days.
