SÃO PAULO – Pará police closed a Havana store in Belém, which opened this Saturday after a crowd formed at the doors of the establishment during opening hours. In images published by Luciano Hang, owner of the retailer, on his social networks, it is possible to see hundreds of customers, many of them without masks.
The decision of the Pará government was made after videos with images of the inauguration went viral on the internet. According to a statement issued by the government of Pará, the store manager will be held “to provide clarifications, at the Marambaia Section, for breach of the standards established by the WHO (World Health Organization).”

According to the local Civil Police, the store representative will be summoned to provide clarifications and charged with a crime against public health, according to article 268 of the Brazilian Penal Code, the penalty of which varies from one month to one year of detention in addition to a fine of transit.
Crowds and the movement of people without masks are prohibited as they facilitate the spread of the new coronavirus. The use of masks is mandatory by law in Pará since May, regardless of the time of movement or the distance traveled by the individual.
‘Common agreement’
Wanted early in the afternoon, Havan said he would not speak. Following news of the store’s closure, the chain said it did so “in accordance with authorities to reduce movement.”

The unit that opened on Saturday is 150 of the company, and the event was attended by Hang, who spoke with the vendors and employees of the new store before the opening. The retailer withdrew last week from making a public offering of shares on the stock exchange.
In videos posted on his account on a social network, the businessman appears hugged by a group of six employees in the new store, all without masks.
“The group that takes care of our cleaning. When we make a store, it is job creation, from earthworks. […] How many jobs have been created here? Miles, in a store, ”he says.
In another video, Hang shows an agglomeration in front of the closed shop window about to open with the words “we have not opened yet and Belém has already come to the fore with prestige.”
Hang also posted images of a speech he gave to the salespeople of the new unit in which it can be seen that there is a crush of employees, many without masks. The entrepreneur himself is not masked in the videos, even when interacting with employees and customers.
The images sparked criticism of Hang and Havan on social media. The capital of Pará has 38,533 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus and 2,213 deaths so far, according to information compiled by Brasil.io.
The State Department of Public Health (Sespa) said in a statement that the responsibility of inspecting the store lies with the city of Belém, “but as the municipal government did not respond, Sespa sent a team from the Health Surveillance team to the site. “.

The Belém mayor’s office, for its part, reported that the opening ceremony was private and that “the responsibility of restricting and distancing people is the responsibility of the administrators.”
Requires mask and alcohol gel
In a note, the city also said that everyone must comply with municipal decree No. 95.955 / 2020, “which authorizes the application of fines and warnings in case of non-compliance.”
Article 11 of the aforementioned decree establishes that “establishments authorized to operate are obliged to strictly observe all hygiene and protection regulations to prevent the spread of Covid-19.”
These include cleaning with soap and water and / or 70% alcohol gel; use of personal protective equipment, control the entry of people and maintain a minimum distance of 1.5 meters, use of masks, avoid crowds, among others.
