The Civil Police today prohibited an aviary in São Gonçalo, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, suspected of selling pigeon meat as if it were chicken. Consumer Police officers will also carry out an inspection in other establishments

The action came after agents received several complaints from the site. The police found a depot for slaughtered poultry, where the meat was traded with mixed species, without any identification. The owner of the aviary was caught on the spot.

The agents found several birds, such as chickens, ducks, quail and pigeons, that were in poor hygiene conditions. In addition, the Civil Police reported that the establishment, which is located in the Paraíso neighborhood, did not have authorization from the inspection bodies.

According to the delegate responsible for the operation, André Luiz Neves, the owner of the place affirmed that the meat of the pigeons was used only for religious rituals:

“The owner denied that he had mixed the meat, said that he sold the pigeons he caught on the street for spiritual rituals and not for meat for consumption. We will review other establishments, ”said the delegate. Twitter.
