The Military Police of the Federal District yesterday rescued a snake of the Muçurana species that was found on the balcony of an apartment, in Águas Claras, in the Federal District.

Upon arrival at the scene, the police scanned the complainant resident’s apartment. However, the animal was only found on the neighboring balcony of the Manacá Building, which is located less than three kilometers from Águas Claras Park.

After the rescue, the snake was sent to the Brasilia Zoo for investigation. It is not yet known for sure whether it comes from its natural or captive habitat. The residents also do not know its origin.

The muçurana measures around 1.60 m in length, reaching up to about 2.40 m. It can be found in Central and South America, its diet is based on small vertebrates and other snakes, poisonous or not.

Other snakes found in the Federal District

On July 7, student Pedro Henrique Kambeck was bitten by a cobra and fell into a coma in the Federal District. Following his discharge from the hospital, he was temporarily detained on July 29 and spent two days in prison. Other snakes were discovered in his possession.

The 22-year-old was charged with trafficking in wild animals and mistreatment for the corresponding number of snakes related to him: 23. In addition, Pedro will be responsible for criminal association and illegal exercise of the profession.

The MP-DFT (Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories) denounced Pedro and four other people (his mother, Rose, his stepfather, Colonel Eduardo Condi and his colleague Gabriel Ribeiro) for the illegal creation and sale of snakes.
