The corporal of the Military Police Janitom Celso Rosa Amorim, 39, arrested this Friday after killing his girlfriend, has a history of assault reported to the police. The PM, who has been with the corporation since 2006, was stationed in the Resende battalion in the south of the state. He held his girlfriend, Mayara Pereira, hostage for approximately two and a half hours on the campus of the Centro Universitário de Valença and ended up shooting her in the mouth. Taken to the hospital, the victim did not resist.

Ten years ago, the brother of a policeman’s girlfriend went to DP 90 (Barra Mansa) to report that the woman had been physically attacked by the military. The man said that his sister had not come to the police station because she was very nervous. The police installed a Preliminary Information Verification (VPI), which ended up suspended.

In 2013, Janitom was again denounced, this time for bodily injury and threats. The victim was also at the 90th PD to report that he was approached by the policeman, who was stationed at the 28th BPM (Volta Redonda), but was wearing a uniform. The man claims that he was searched and then beaten by the PM with punches. The policeman is said to have placed the revolver on the victim’s belly.

The man also said that the next day he was again approached by police, who put a gun to his head and dragged him to a truck. The victim narrates that the prime minister opened the car doors so that no one could see them. With the doors open, the police officer ordered the victim to remove his underpants and underwear to search him. Then he said that every time he saw the man he “dismembered him.” The case is still ongoing at the police station.

In the same year, another victim requested the 90th DP to record the facts against the PM. The young man reported that he was attacked by a security guard at a gas station in the Santa Cecília neighborhood, in Volta Redonda, with punches and kicks to the face and neck. The boy said he has a disagreement with Corporal Janitom, who would have been the one who asked the security guard to attack him. The victim also reported that Janitom was at the station in a Military Police vehicle.

Kidnapping and death

Dental surgeon Mayara Pereira de Oliveira, 31, was kidnapped and then shot by her boyfriend, Janitom Celso Rosa Amorim, 39, in the parking lot of a university in Valença, south of Rio de Janeiro.

The kidnapping took place during the morning, and Mayara was in possession of her boyfriend at 2:30 am, inside his own car, in the parking lot of the Fundação Educacional Dom André Arcoverde (FAA), in the neighborhood of Fátima. According to information from the Military Police, the Tactical Intervention Unit (UIT) of the Police Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) was activated and immediately transferred by helicopter to Valença.

During the preliminary negotiation, Janitom shot the victim. He was then detained by the police and taken to the local police station. The dentist was hit in the mouth and taken to the university’s own teaching hospital, but had four cardiac arrests and could not resist.

Mayara was a graduate student in dentistry at Fundação Dom Educacional Dom André Arcoverde. She leaves behind a five-year-old son, the fruit of a previous relationship.

The university said in a statement that this morning the couple were arguing inside a vehicle in the parking lot when a security team from the institution noticed the fight and tried to get closer. However, officers realized that the man was armed and called the police.

Janitom was charged with the crime of qualified double homicide, in addition to kidnapping and private prison. He was transferred to the PM prison unit in Niterói, Metropolitan Region of Rio.
