Two pharmacists announced that they had developed a drug that reduced Covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths.

The combination of drugs from the alliance between Vir Biotechnology, from the United States, and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), from the United Kingdom, would have managed to reduce hospitalization cases and deaths by up to 85%.

They created a remedy, called VIR-7831, based on antibodies. According to the drug companies, an independent panel, which followed the study, indicated that no further testing would be necessary, as the drug showed great promise from the start.

The companies will apply to the FDA, equivalent to Anvisa in Brazil, for authorization for emergency use in the United States. If approved, the drug will join drugs made by Eli Lilly and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals.

According to the companies, the remedy is effective against Brazilian, British and South African variants.
