A 45-year-old patient with covid-19 who received oxygen at the HU (University Hospital) in Londrina, 390 km from Curitiba, had an anxiety attack at the clinic and today fled the site. The medical team treating him said they feared he would be intubated, the hospital said.
The scene of the escape on the street was recorded during the morning by a person who was outside the unit. The images show four trained professionals chasing the patient to the corner.

“When asked about the reason for his escape, he said he was afraid and anxious about the possible worsening of the clinical condition and the possibility of being intubated, facts that motivated him to leave the hospital environment, without prior authorization,” he confirmed in a note.
After being immobilized in the street, the professionals “accommodated the patient on a stretcher, with the installation of an oxygen mask, and transported him to the bed, where he was admitted.”
“The medical team promptly evaluated the patient, requested an imaging examination, remains under strict medical and multiprofessional observation, receiving the necessary pharmacotherapy and oxygen therapy,” added the HU. He also received psychological assistance and spoke with his wife via video call.
The occupancy of beds in the University Hospital is currently 178%. Londrina has 41,834 confirmed cases, of which 40,269 have been recovered. There were 817 deaths as a result of the disease.
